A recent history
In 2005 the original Basia QDA stunned the carp scene and broke new ground. Its ultra-light construction, all silver livery and shallow 45mm spool design became an iconic look as well as a whole new template for high performance big pit reels.
In 2020 the improved SCW edition of the Tournament Basia not only brought a refresh in style but an uplift in tech and features such as Slow Cross Wrap, LC Long Cast and Magsealed. These combined to truly elevate the Basia performance rating.
The future
For 2026 Big Pit reel design has a new trajectory, thanks to the amazing 26 Tournament Basia.
It offers a redesign of the 45mm spool. Increasing in diameter by 10% combined with the merest of tapers at 2°, it unlocks even greater line capacity and allows for a superfast crank rate of 115cm.

A bigger spool and rotor calls for a bigger bail. AIRDRIVE Bail uses a thinner diameter of hollow pipe, reducing weight but keeping rigidity and toughness.
This leap in spool size has seen the development of our biggest ever rotor for a Big Pit reel. Strength, balance and smoothness are achieved through the innovative Zaion AIRDRIVE Rotor.
Designed to serve in all elements, ready and waiting for hours; sometimes days on the pod, this Big Pit can take it.
The presence of Mag Sealed adds even more protection, halting the ingress of water borne debris and abrasives into the gearing.
Despite all that is bigger and added, the 26 Tournament Basia remains remarkably light at 540g, thanks to the strong yet weight saving ZAION body and rotor.
Slow Cross Wrap is the perfected angle of line lay on the spool to optimize loading and release.
The reduced line resistance during the cast delivers increased energy and distance.
Fishing at distance be it casting or rowing out baits even further is central to modern carping.
This Basia is supplied with two spools to serve all needs. ‘C’ spool - 300m of 0.35mm / ‘LD’ - 530m of 0.35mm.
Standard features like QD Quick Drag (now 15kg), HIP line clip and Twistbuster III are also present as well as the signature wooden handle. A nod for sure to the very origins of Daiwa Big Pit design.
Detailed consideration has even been given to the size of the anti-reverse lever. Increased in size to make for easy and quick access, especially when seeking rapid line release.
